competing for attention…

the lily, clematis and fuchsias are a tangled display. A large birch tree blocks much of the afternoon sunshine, so the plants reach and seek the light. Consequently, there is quite the mess. I have given up sorting or pruning back to make some orderly sense of it all. Like life sometimes.

the days that pass by…

“They are not long, the days of wine and roses, Out of a misty dream,
Our path emerges for a while, then closes,  Within a dream.”
Ernest Dowson, 1867 – 1900

A spot of light….

“I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” John Muir (unpublished journal)

Radiant Morning

“She was a sun, radiant, growing, gathering light and storing it – then after an eternity pouring it forth in a glance, the fragment of a sentence, to that part of him that cherished all beauty and all illusion.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beautiful and Damned

Sic Semper Tyrannis

There’s No Accounting For Taste; Search the Blog for Much More. Thanks for Visiting!

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
