do not forget me…

“It is upon such stones that men attempt to permanently etch history so they will not exist in a vacuum; it is the final statement after a lifetime of scratching out divisions upon the ground, over ephemeral time itself, merely to give their short journeys meaning, to tell others “I was here – do not forget me, do not let my brief blast dissolve into nothingness.” Rob Bignell

Headstone Maintenance

I came across this damaged headstone awhile back. Many of the headstones were 150+ plus years old. Here are a few sites on maintaining headstones: Gravestone Studies & The Camera in the Cemetery.

There is something about cemeteries that is fascinating. Old cemeteries, old explorers and pioneers. I like to explore them and piece together snippets of life and death. I always come away thinking my glimpses are so minimal in piecing together their life and passing. Nonetheless, I enjoy the visits.
