The Shed’s Shelf

“The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, for children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep….for babies don’t keep”

Monuments to What?

Usually the first thing to catches the eye is the graffiti, the lighting, the angles and lastly the canvas. The mind might think of what type of person sprayed the ‘art’ or markings on the building? When did they do it? What does it mean? Any more, given the amount of such markings about town, I could care less.

These days, my eyes are drawn to the row upon row of exquisitely placed brick and mortar. The door way with the diagonal inserts, the tradesmen that created a structure so others might fulfill their enterprising dream and others might provide support for themselves and families.

The monument of a craftsman trumps the spray can. Odds are the hands holding the spray can will never hold a brick trowel. Rationalize it how you will; I refuse to anymore.

He puttered, he built keepsakes for grandchildren, he planned projects and he hoarded lumber…when lumber was made right. Now, he grows tired, distracted in memory and light headed. His sanctuary sets just out of reach; his safety a growing concern. A hobby, a way of life, slipped just out of reach within a matter of months. Difficult to watch. He doesn’t let go of his plans, his projects in his mind. He shouldn’t…….

Farm life: The Shed & All It Holds

On a farm, there is a place that one can escape to in order to tinker, to fix, to think. Here are a group of photographs that reflect the above acts inside ‘the shed’. I know it is quite a few photos, but they captured my mind today as I walked around outside. The din of several dozen voices, inside the house, forced me to seek a moment of solitude. Outside, my mind was occupied by the cavalcade of stuff in ‘the shed’.
