Hermitage in the Desert
“…the artist’s desert hermitage was a small adobe house at the end of a long dusty road.” Dictionary Def.
My wife and I were fortunate to visit a ‘hermitage’. The peaceful house was built by a man that sought solitude at the end of that ‘long dusty road’. Many of us wish for such a place, at least to visit and soak up the quiet, the vistas, the peace.
“most of my wandering in the desert i’ve done alone. not so much from choice as from necessity – i generally prefer to go into places where no one else wants to go. i find that in contemplating the natural world my pleasure is greater if there are not too many others contemplating it with me, at the same time.” Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire
Out of respect for the folks that visit the ‘hermitage’ now, I won’t display images of the retreat at the end of a long dusty road. Suffice to say, even a short visit is good for the soul.
