Desert scape

But for an old wagon wheel and some terracotta tiles, the desert waits….

What if you are the hub………

The Hub

You won’t find many quotes, sayings or poems about a hub. No witty metaphors, no rhyming of words to show adoration of the center of things, the hub. Without the hub we are at a standstill. There how about that one. “Without the hub, we are at a standstill.” SwittersB

For something so essential, there’s little written praising the hub. The word itself does not foster pleasant thoughts I s’pose. Ok, walk if you must. But it has its limitations in the end. Praise to the hub.

Age & Heart

“Life’s tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.” Ben Franklin

“Age shows what children we do remain.”  Goethe

“Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young.” Ben again

Hermitage in the Desert

“…the artist’s desert hermitage was a small adobe house at the end of a long dusty road.”  Dictionary Def.

My wife and I were fortunate to visit a ‘hermitage’. The peaceful house was built by a man that sought solitude at the end of that ‘long dusty road’. Many of us wish for such a place, at least to visit and soak up the quiet, the vistas, the peace.

“most of my wandering in the desert i’ve done alone. not so much from choice as from necessity – i generally prefer to go into places where no one else wants to go. i find that in contemplating the natural world my pleasure is greater if there are not too many others contemplating it with me, at the same time.” Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire

Out of respect for the folks that visit the ‘hermitage’ now, I won’t display images of the retreat at the end of a long dusty road. Suffice to say, even a short visit is good for the soul.
