soothing brook…

The ‘brook’ is down, exposing a boulder here and there, the shoreline is gradually exposed as the water level drops…but, in the shade, the shaded spot offers a respite from the heat, a soothing sound and usually an upstream breeze to cool the sweat on the brow.

be prepared to row…

“He that embarks on the voyage of life will always wish to advance rather by the impulse of the wind than the strokes of the oar; and many fold in their passage; while they lie waiting for the gale.’” Samuel Johnson, 1770

Sic Semper Tyrannis

There’s No Accounting For Taste; Search the Blog for Much More. Thanks for Visiting!

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
