The last of Winter…

on the West end of the Columbia River Gorge at Multnomah Falls. I see the Daphne budding out by the front porch. A little more warmth, a little Spring like fragrance hitting the nose would be nice.

A half hour from home…

the Columbia River Gorge is just breaking free of its fifth ice storm. Normally this is a great view of the Crown Point & the Vista House from Chanticleer Point…a few days ago the ice and wind still made a stable shot difficult.

Quote by Carl Sandberg. Stopped raining long enough for the clouds to part a bit and allow a shot.

Roses in Winter…

rose-shadow-winter-swittersb

Envious of roses in the Winter…came across these at a friend’s garden in Rancho Mirage, California. Certainly makes me yearn for my garden, which sits dormant waiting for Springtime in Oregon.

Frozen in time…

Columbia River Gorge, or as locals call it the Gorge. A small waterfall along the ‘Scenic Hiway’ (the old road up the Gorge before the I-84 freeway was constructed)

Brrrr….

Winter seems to be holding on here in Portland (Oregon). Not harsh by other standards by far, but still for here it is a bit colder than usual. Another bout possible tonight or will we dodge it?

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
