old, sawn rounds…

lying in the woods. Maybe someday, someone will finally split these.

A splash of foxglove…

in a sea of only shades of green, the foxglove’s purple was a nice contrast…

“My favourite plant is the foxglove. I think they are a perfect balance between being a garden plant and a wild plant, as at home in woodland as they are in a city.” Clive Anderson

into the woods…

“Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods. Sleep in forgetfulness of all ill.” John Muir (unless there are mosquitoes)

piece of bone in the woods…

“The tongue has no bones, yet it breaks bones” Greek Proverb

a piece of bone, amongst many others, deep into the woods. The bone & moss caught my eye for whatever reason.

A walk up…

an old forest trail got steeper and steeper. The sound of rushing water could be heard off to the side. I decided to venture off the trail, on a probable game trail, toward the sound of water. The wet forest was inviting, the steep trail not so much. A short distance in, I came across the tumbling stream heading for the Columbia River…not another person in sight.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
